19th Mar 2007

The 2007 William Inglis & Son March Thoroughbred Sale will begin this Thursday March 22 at Oaklands Junction commencing at 11am and will continue the following day, Friday March 23, also starting at 11am.

A main catalogue of 318 quality lots will be joined by a supplementary catalogue offering a further 64 lots, containing racehorses, broodmares and yearlings.

The sale will see an annual reduction from Australia’s largest breeder, Woodlands Stud, where they will offer 29 mares in foal to leading stallions Octagonal (NZ), Over, Canny Lad, Quest For Fame (GB) and Arena. All Woodlands Stud based, these sires have been on fire of late, producing high calibre winners including He’s No Pie Eater (Canny Lad), recent winner of the Group One AJC Chipping Norton Stakes, as well as the Group One AJC Doncaster Handicap bound The Free Stater (Over), winner of the AJC Frederick Clissold Stakes and Liverpool City Cup, both at Group Three level, at his latest outings.

Stakes winner What’s The Mail ( Lot 265) will headline an extensive array of over 190 racehorses, allowing buyers on every level ample opportunity to walk away with a racing prospect to suit their requirements. Offered on behalf of the Estate of the G. Coull, What’s The Mail is a Listed winner of five races from only 15 starts, earning connections over $150,000 in stakes earnings.

A large selection of mares will be offered in foal to both established sires Desert King (IRE), El Moxie (USA) and Umatilla (NZ), along with up and coming sires Bel Esprit, Invincible Spirit (IRE) and Delago Brom. Mares will also be offered in foal to first season sires Untouchable and Hold That Tiger (USA), while sires with current weanlings on the ground Niello, Footstepsinthesand (GB) and Seidnazar have covered mares that will be going through the ring.

A strong stallion line up will see four well-bred entires offered, highlighted by the triple Group One winning Argentinean Champion 2YO Lord Jim (ARG) who will go through as Lot 147. Danger Looms ( Lot 149), a winner of the Group Two VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes and Swinging Bachelor ( Lot 148), a stakes-placed son of Royal Academy (USA), from the family of Champion 2YO Filly Midnight Fever, will follow Lord Jim (ARG).

The supplementary catalogue will be available from Thursday at the William Inglis & Son Oaklands Junction office. Both the supplementary and main catalogues are now available online.
