The four day Inglis Great Southern Sale for 2012 came to a close on Friday in Melbourne, where over 600 thoroughbreds had been traded since Tuesday.
79% of stock offered across the last four days at Inglis’ Oaklands complex was sold for total sale receipts of 4,124,100.
“There was definitely plenty of great value buying completed throughout the sale, with some outstanding breeding and racing prospects picked up today for reasonable prices,” Inglis Melbourne Director Peter Heagney said.
Group 3 placed three-year-old filly Metonymy (pictured) recorded the highest price at Friday’s session when selling to Steve Brem for $80,000. Brem was the busiest individual buyer from the bloodstock section of the Great Southern Sale purchasing five fillies and mares for a total spend of $277,500 over the last two days.
Victorian operation Noor Elaine Farm picked up the second highest priced filly on the final day of the sale, going to $42,000 to secure last start Caulfield winner Rock Of Ages. The five time winning four-year-old daughter of Fastnet Rock was purchased from Contract Racing’s Reduction draft.
“The racehorse section continues to be the strongest in Australia with excellent demand for proven performers and racing prospects. Buyers from every state and territory across Australia, plus visitors from New Zealand and the Philippines featured on the buyers list this week and we wish them the best of luck in the future with their purchases,” Heagney added.
Weanlings, Yearling, Broodmares, Stallions, Unbroken or Racing stock that passed in at this week’s Great Southern Sale are available for sale via the Inglis Make-An-Offer service.
