The annual Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale Preview magazine, featuring industry articles and pedigrees of the 625 highly select yearlings entered for the world class sale, is now available online at www.inglis.com.au
The 107th edition of the southern hemisphere’s leading sale will be held in Sydney from April 10 to 12 in 2012.
Fascinating subjects covered in this year’s preview include Segenhoe Stud’s new owner Kevin Maloney, Australian Racing Hall of Fame inductee Shannon – the first international star of Easter, the social media phenomenon hitting racing and the rise of Aussie horses in the world rankings, all written by respected industry professionals.
Easter consistently unearths champions on and off the racetrack, and the quality of yearlings on offer next year is again mouth-watering.
Headed by Black Caviar’s half-sister by Redoute’s Choice and So You Think’s brother by High Chaparral, there are 102 yearlings entered for Easter that are out of Group One winning dams or out of dams that have already produced a Group One winner.
50 Group One winning dams, including champions Miss Finland, Sun Classique, Private Steer, Pay My Bail, Iflooxcouldkill, Desert Flight, Star Satire, National Colour and Burst.
52 siblings to Group One winners, including champions Makybe Diva, Starspangledbanner, Samantha Miss, Sebring, Dance Hero, Racing To Win, Gingerbread Man, Viewed, Grand Armee, Heavenly Glow, Meurice, Elvstroem, Headway and Alinghi, in addition to the aforementioned Black Caviar and So You Think.
Easter has an enviable record of producing future star stallions, such as Fastnet Rock, Encosta de Lago, Flying Spur and Exceed And Excel. This quartet is represented with 144 yearlings in the preview.
With 62 lots Fastnet Rock is the most represented sire, highlighted by the first foal of Group One winner Absolut Glam, a sister to Thousand Guineas winner Irish Lights, a sister to Foxwedge and a three-quarter-brother to King’s Rose.
Coolmore Stud barnmate Encosta de Lago has 50 yearlings entered, including fillies from Group One winners Gold Edition, Larrocha and Macaveli Miss, exhilarating juvenile Amelia’s Dream, plus half-sisters to Rena’s Lady and Dealer Principal.
As he has done many times before Encosta currently sits a-top of the leading sires table in Hong Kong, and his colts at Easter are again likely to be much sort after including the siblings of Sebring, Racing To Win, Dance Hero and sons of Lovely Jubly and Private Steer .
42 lots are by two-time Champion Australian sire Redoute’s Choice, such as siblings to Black Caviar, Samantha Miss, Starspangledbanner and Virage de Fortune. Redoute’s is also the sire of yearlings from young Group One winners Carry On Cutie, Ellicorsam and Ike’s Dream.
Current Australian Champion Sire Lonhro is represented by 29 yearlings, while former Champion Flying Spur will be represented with 20 lots.
More Than Ready, who has 35 yearlings in Easter, claimed consecutive Champion Two-Year-Old sire crowns thanks much to the deeds of Golden Slipper winners Sebring and Phelan Ready in 2008 and 2009. At Easter in 2012 Sebring heads the list of first season sires with 42 lots, including a sibling to Phelan Ready.
Sebring’s fellow Widden Stud resident Northern Meteor has 25 entered, while other first season sires to be represented in the April showcase include Authorized, Duke Of Marmalade, Henrythenavigator, Myboycharlie, New Approach, Teofilo and War Pass, who won 20 Group One races between them.
Bernardini’s first crop was well received at Easter this year and the northern hemisphere phenomenon has 23 set for 2012 including a half-sister to Singapore Champion Gingerbread Man and half-brother to John Size’s exciting Hong Kong Mile entrant Sichuan Success.
There is a strong group of New Zealand vendors heading accross the Tasman to Easter, with yearlings by the likes of High Chaparral who has 21 entries.
The progeny of Street Cry make a long-awaited return to Australian yearling sales next year, with Easter possessing the pick of the crop such as half-brothers to Makybe Diva, Meurice and Wanted.
Other stallions with double figure drafts include Charge Forward, Exceed And Excel, Red Ransom, Choisir, O’Reilly, Stratum, Tale Of The Cat, Zabeel, Commands, Starcraft and Street Sense.
The 2012 Easter Preview teems with unrivalled pedigrees and individuals.
“Inglis sold gallopers have consistently starred on racetracks throughout the globe since Choisir cut a swathe through Royal Ascot eight years ago,” said Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster.
“The whole of Australasia will no doubt be watching Black Caviar closely the next few months as she prepares for Royal Ascot with runs in Melbourne earlier next year.
“Breeders in this region are blessed with unparalleled access to the best bloodlines of both hemispheres and combined with the advantages of the Australasian environment, will no doubt continue to produce world class gallopers like South African Horse Of the Year Igugu [by Galileo].
“Tattersall’s October, Keenland September and Inglis Easter are the benchmark for this wonderful global industry, and we very much look forward to welcoming new and existing customers to Sydney next April for the 2012 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale,” Webster concluded.
