2012 Inglis Melbourne Premier Catalogue Online

The catalogue for the next Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, the source of undefeated Australian Horse of the Year Black Caviar and South African Horse of the Year Igugu, is now available online.

The 2012 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale will be held at Oaklands next February 27 to March 1, with the 790-strong catalogue available to be viewed HERE

The sale has an enviable record of unearthing Group One winners and statistics show that the catalogue for the Victorian sale keeps improving year after year like its graduates.

Headlined by $210,000 purchase Black Caviar and $65,000 purchase Igugu, Melbourne Premier graduates have won 45 Group One races across Australia, South Africa, Japan, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Malaysia and Macau in the last five seasons.

Individual Group One winners in that period also include Pinker Pinker, Starspangledbanner, Ortensia, Littorio, Weekend Hussler, Turffontein, Arapaho Miss, Le Drakkar, Reward For Effort, Rostova, Sakima, Golden Gunner, Sanjuan, Ultra Fantasy and Sacred Kingdom.

The 2012 sale will be held over four days from February 27. Sunday February 26 is an Open Inspection Day and follows Super Saturday at Caulfield, when three Group One events including the Blue Diamond, Futurity Stakes and Oakleigh Plate will be held.

Premier Session 1 will be held on the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, with 614 yearlings on offer. Premier Session 2, comprising 176 lots, rounds out the sale on Thursday March 1.

“Melbourne’s figures stack up. The sale continually produces international champions like Black Caviar, Igugu, Starspangledbanner, Sacred Kingdom and Weekend Hussler while the depth of stallions, female families and physical types keeps improving”, Inglis Melbourne Director Peter Heagney said.

Underlining the strength of stallion representation in next year’s Melbourne catalogue the number of yearlings by Australian Champion Sire Lonhro has more than doubled from 13 in 2011 to 30 in 2012.

Inglis are also set to offer more yearlings than they ever have in Melbourne by red hot sire Fastnet Rock, with 28 by the son of Danehill catalogued.

Former Australian Champion Sires Encosta de Lago (17 lots), Flying Spur (11) and Redoute’s Choice (5) will again be represented at the flourishing sale.

One of the highlights of the sale will no doubt be the brother to four-time Hong Kong Champion Sprinter Sacred Kingdom (by Encosta de Lago), a graduate of Premier himself, who will be offered by Kornong Stud Farm as Lot 478.

There are an additional 10 siblings to Group One winners such as Divine Madonna, Rebel Raider, Fashions Afield and Miss Keepsake, along with 13 youngsters from Group One winners including Macedon Lady, Special Mission, Asylum Seeker, Mannerism, Danglissa and Dowry.

“There is a great balance of proven sires, emerging superstars and exciting well-credentialed new stallions in the 2012 Melbourne catalogue, with sprinters, milers, middle-distance and staying types all available”, Heagney added.

Undefeated superstar mare Black Caviar was picked out of Melbourne Premier by her trainer Peter Moody in 2008, and 39 yearlings by her sire Bel Esprit are set to go under the hammer at the sale next year.

Australian and European Champion Sprinter Starspangledbanner was secured for $120,000 from Melbourne, and his globe-trotting sire Choisir has 22 to be offered at Premier in 2012.

Greg Eurell, the trainer of WS Cox Plate winner Pinker Pinker, also had to go to $120,000 to secure his star mare from Premier. Her sire Reset has 8 catalogued for sale next year, Weekend Hussler’s sire Hussonet has 8 entered, Reward For Effort’s sire Exceed And Excel has 11 and Ortensia’s sire Testa Rossa has 20.

Other proven stallions well represented include Statue Of Liberty (24), Rock Of Gibraltar (23), Tale Of The Cat (21), Not A Single Doubt (19), High Chaparral (13), Stratum (13), Starcraft (12), Snitzel (11), Charge Forward (10) and Commands (8).

Eliza Park Stud, the home of Black Caviar’s sire Bel Espirt, leads the strong vendors list compiled for the 2012 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale with 64 lots.

Yallambee Stud, the sales source of Group One winner Rostova, will bring a large draft of 31 yearlings to Oaklands next year.

Swettenham Stud had the pleasure of offering Black Caviar amongst their Premier draft a few years ago and Adam Sangster’s stud will bring another strong group of 29 to the sale in 2012.

Other vendors with considerable size drafts coming to Melbourne next February include Supreme Thoroughbreds (31 lots), Bellerive Stud (29), Makybe (26), Three Bridges Thoroughbreds (26), Blue Gum Farm (21), Erinvale Thoroughbreds (21) and Phoenix Broodmare Farm (21).

“We are extremely grateful for the ongoing support from our loyal vendors that continue to turnout well-prepared athletic yearlings that this sale has become world renowned for”, Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster said

“Inglis is also very pleased to welcome over a dozen new vendors to Melbourne next year, bringing with them 74 yearlings from Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania and New Zealand

“There is a great diversity of stallions represented in this Premier catalogue, our best yet, with yearlings to suit all buyers whom we look forward to greeting at the sale during the Melbourne Festival of Racing.

“Horse racing in Victoria has never been stronger and with the added incentive of the $2.6million Inglis Race Series, Super VOBIS and Super VOBIS Gold there is no better time to get involved in this amazing sport,” Webster added.
