Racenet - Nic Ashman - Saturday, 29 June 2013
Interstate raider Eximius has proven too strong for the local brigade in Saturday’s Listed Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m).
Racenet reported on Friday there was a strong push in the Guineas for two horses travelling from interstate.
The Gerald Ryan-trained Dances On Stars and Mick Price’s Eximius were both well supported in early betting, but markets had to be adjusted when Ryan withdrew Dances On Stars, leaving Eximus to get the job done.
The son of Exceed And Excel settled well back during the run before Larry Cassidy made his move around the field at the 600 metre mark.
The pair pounced on the lead at halfway up the straight and proved too strong on the line for Lucky Hussler and Casino Card.
It was Eximius’s third crack at a Guineas during his three-year-old season. The chestnut gelding finished fourth in the Sandown Guineas and seventh in the Hawkesbury Guineas.
Eximius (3g Exceed And Excel x Allegra) was a $100,000 purchase by his owners, Rockmount Syndicate, from the draft of Supreme Thoroughbreds at the 2011 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.
Saturday's win take Eximius' earnings to $279,000 thanks to four wins and two placings in 13 starts so far.
