$2.2M Traded at AWBS Opener

Five mares topped the $200,000 mark as trading reached almost $2.2million on the opening day of the Inglis Australian Weanling & Breeding Stock Sale in Sydney today.

The Select broodmares brought $1.968million at an average of $38,589, with another 74 mares selling during the General Session.

The day was highlighted by the sale of the Giant’s Causeway mare Hides (pictured), who was sold in foal to Encosta De Lago for $350,000. Newgate Bloodstock secured the mare, who is a half-sister to Hong Kong Group 1 winner Scintillation and multiple G2 winner Shania Dane, being from the grand producer Subterfuge.

Queensland based agent Neil Jenkinson went to $260,000 for the stakes placed Redoute’s Choice mare Pachanga, while Dean Hawthorne went to the same amount for the regally-bred Quest For Fame mare Back Pass.

"There was strong competition for well credentialed mares during today's session from buyers from both sides of the Tasman," said Inglis Director Jonathan D'Arcy.

"Interest in the weanlings which sell over the next two days has been very good ."

"We anticipate strong competition for the commercial weanlings."

Today’s broodmare session was preceded by the First Season Sire Weanling parade, which was televised on TVN.

"Once again this parade will be sure to assist young sires with bookings for the coming season."
