2YOs ready for first public trials

Inglis graduates will be represented in 10 of the 12 season-opening two-year-old barrier trials at Canterbury on Monday.

Among them are several well-bred youngsters including Inglis Classic graduate Mia Stella Rose (Written Tycoon x Fantastic Glen), a filly which sold for $350,000 at this year’s inaugural Gold Riband session on the opening night of Classic to Guiseppe Stambe from Kenmore Lodge, and a pair of Easter colts; Mandalong Ready (More Than Ready x Wasimah), a $340,000 buy for Mandalong Park from the Corumbene Stud draft and Landon (I Am Invincible x Prairie Star) which Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott bought from Willow Park Stud for $320,000.

A total of 88 two-year-olds – 56 colts and geldings and 32 fillies - are entered for the trials, which will be run on the Canterbury course proper.

Of the sires represented Exceed And Excel leads the way with 11 runners ahead of I Am Invincible (7), Snitzel (6) and Sizzling (5).

Inglis National Bloodstock Director Jonathan D’Arcy was excited about seeing the juveniles on the track for the first time.

“The merry-go-round starts again, the dreams of hundreds of owners are about to be brought to life,’’ D’Arcy said.

“This is one of the most interesting times of the year when young stallions’ careers begin to take shape.

“Plenty of Golden Slipper runners have stepped out at these early trials in previous years and no doubt Monday will showcase plenty of talent."

The first of 12 trials begins at 9.30am.
