3YO Stakes dominance continues

A trio of talented 3YOs extended the Stakes dominance of Inglis graduates of that age group this season when Akari, Thought Of That and Alabama Express all won black-type races.

The results took the number of 3YO Stakes-winning Inglis graduates this season to 18. Our nearest competitor has produced just four.

Akari (Snitzel) justified the esteem of which the people who bought her for $1,050,000 at the Easter Yearling Sale held her in with a big win in the Listed Reginald Allen Quality at Randwick.

Selling to Andrew Williams Bloodstock, Jadeskye Racing and trainer Brad Widdup, Akari was offered at sale by Arrowfield Stud, who also bred the horse along with the Jungle Pocket syndicate.

Today’s was a first Stakes win from just her fifth career start for Akari (pictured), who is co-raced by Neil Werrett and Max Whitby.

“She was such a phenomenal physical at Easter and it’s so good to see her continue to develop physically and mentally into the filly she is today and will be in the future,’’ Williams said.

“She’s a high-quality filly.’’

Thought Of That (So You Think) announced himself a genuine Victoria Derby prospect with a dominant four length win in the G3 Ladbrokes Classic at Caulfield.

Sent straight to the front by Linda Meech, the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained 3YO gave nothing else a chance, careering away for the easiest of victories.

It sets up a mouth-watering clash with fellow star Inglis 3YO Shadow Hero in the Derby, following his win in the G1 Spring Champion Stakes last weekend.

Bred by Ken Williams and raced by Brae Sokolski and connections, Thought Of That is a $100,000 Inglis Easter buy for Forest Lodge Racing, from the Tarcoola Stud draft.

And Alabama Express (Redoute’s Choice) will head to Flemington on Derby Day to contest the Carbine Club Stakes following a strong win in the Listed Gothic Stakes at Caulfield.

The GSA Bloodstock-bred 3YO is a $280,000 Easter Yearling Sale buy for Paul Moroney Bloodstock, from the Arrowfield Stud draft.

Meanwhile Humma Humma (Denman) made it back-to-back wins to start her spring campaign with victory in the Listed Alinghi Stakes at Caulfield.

Trained by John McArdle, 4YO mare Humma Humma is an $80,000 Premier Yearling Sale purchase for her primary owners Redgum Racing, from the Flinders Park Stud draft.

She has now won almost $500,000.

Humma Humma was bred by Bridsan Bloodstock.

In today’s two major feature races, Kitchwin Hills’ Inglis Classic graduate Vow And Declare firmed into $13 in the Melbourne Cup following a slashing second placing in the G1 Caulfield Cup.

And the Premier Yearling Sale’s pin-up boy Santa Ana Lane finished a narrow and unlucky second in the $14m The Everest, with the $2.1m prizemoney earned for second taking the $80,000 yearling purchase’s career earnings to almost $7.5m.
