$4500 Yearling Wins $100,000 Scone Inglis Challenge

Mudgee trainer Brett Thompson and fellow connections are celebrating tonight, following the win by bargain priced Dane Shadow gelding Hewentwhoosh in the $100,000 Inglis Challenge at Scone today.

Prepared for last year's HTBA Scone Yearling Sale by Werai Park, Thompson picked up HEWENTWHOOSH for just $4500.

In a busy season, Hewentwhoosh has had nine starts for two wins and more than $86,000 in earnings.

He proved too good for a capacity field today - made up entirely of graduates from last year's Scone Yearling Sale - surging away from the $7500 Noverre filly Tagurit and Star Of Octagonal (Octagonal), who was having just his first start today.

Hewentwhoosh is from the Barathea mare Zebithea and was coming off a last start third in a $50,000 Inglis Bonus race at Wagga, which was won by Take This Waltz.

The next bonus available for eligible graduates in the Inglis Race Series will be a $100,000 Bonus at Moonee Valley on July 11.

Later in the day OBVIOUS CHOICE ($475,000 2006 Easter, 4g Redoute's Choice-Opera Queen) completed an excellent day for Inglis graduates when taking the Listed Scone Cup (1600m).

The lightly raced Paul Messara trained gelding, who is raced by Arrowfield Stud, is now the winner of six races in 10 starts.

Great Southern Sale Starts Monday

The next opportunity to secure an Inglis graduate is at next week's Melbourne Great Southern Sale.

Held over four sessions, beginning from 12 noon Monday, the sale starts with two days of weanlings, followed by another two sessions of Bloodstock on Wednesday and Thursday.

The Bloodstock session will open with the young Group 2 winning stallion Written Tycoon (Iglesia-Party Miss, by Kenmare), who is being sold to dissolve a partnership.

Written Tycoon has received an excellent start to his stud career, having covered more than 200 mares in his two years to date at Eliza Park with excellent fertility.

Buyers not able to attend the Oaklands complex next week can tune in via Inglis Sale Day Live on the Inglis website and also use the Online Bidding service.

The Great Southern Sale will be followed by the Australian Weanling and Breeding Stock Sale in Sydney on June 25 and 26.

The Catalogue for this sale is now online.
