Snitzel colt Klammer made the trip to Canberra a very worthwhile one on Sunday, collecting a lot more than simply a maiden victory in the Lightning Ridge 2YO Plate over 1000m.
Trained by Gerald Ryan at Rosehill, Klammer showed plenty of determination to defeat local gallopers Chief Of The Clan and Quietly Brilliant in the juvenile contest to not only win $13,000 first place prizemoney for his connections but an additional $50,000 Inglis Race Series Bonus and exemption from the ballot for the $275,000 Listed Black Opal Stakes.
It was all a big thrill for the owners of the winning colt, which has now earned $76,650 from two starts.
Klammer (Snitzel x Morrego) held just a head margin on the line, but it was a valuable one for the improving two-year-old heading towards the Black Opal over 1200m back at Canberra in two weeks’ time.
Another horse that Gerald Ryan is considering for the Black Opal is Ygritte, which was second to fellow Inglis graduate Mossfun in the recent Gr.3 ATC Widden Stakes at Rosehill.
Bred by Damien Flower, Klammer (pictured as yearling at Inglis) topped the 2013 Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling Sale Winter Book in June when selling to Gerald Ryan for $100,000 from the draft of Amarina Farm.
Klammer is the 24th winner for his sire Snitzel to be trained by Gerald Ryan. Others include Group 1 winning Inglis graduate Snitzerland and Group 2 winning Inglis graduates Flying Snitzel and Hot Snitzel.
Snitzel is represented with 18 yearlings in the upcoming 2014 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale on 2, 3, 4 and 5 March. There are also 17 lots by Snitzel in the catalogue for this year’s Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
All yearlings purchased during the 2014 Inglis Select Yearling Sale Series are eligible to be nominated into the $5 million Inglis Race Series.
There are three Inglis Race Series Bonuses on offer next month. $50,000 Bonuses are on offer on 1400m 3YO Bendigo Guineas on Saturday 15 March and 1400m 3YO Albury Guineas for on Friday 28 March.
A $100,000 Inglis Race Series Bonus will be up for grabs on a 2040m 3YO Handicap at Moonee Valley on Saturday 29 March.
