$500K secures Siblings to Classic Favourites

An O’Reilly half-brother to Saturday’s AJC Derby favourite Zabrasive fetched $300,000 this afternoon, which followed the sale of Oaks favourite Faint Perfume’s brother earlier in the day for $200,000.

The pair were sold during the second session of the 2010 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney.

Danny O’Brien hopes to build on his outstanding record with progeny of O’Reilly after being the successful bidder on Zabrasive’s half-brother (pictured) from the Danehill mare Danasia.

“I obviously like the O’Reilly progeny and this was a very nice horse,” said O’Brien, who has prepared O’Reilly progeny like Caulfield Cup winner Master O’Reilly and Group 2 winner Vigor.

“Zabrasive has shown the family can stick on and O’Reillys that can stay are very good horses to have, because they have that turn of foot.”

Haunui Farm’s Mark Chitty described the $300,000 as an excellent result.

“When you convert it to New Zealand dollars, it’s close to $NZ400,000, which represents many times what O'Reilly's service fee was that year,” Chitty said.

“Before Zabrasive came along (and won the Rosehill Guineas) I was thinking maybe a couple hundred (thousand), so that’s a great price.”

Faint Perfume’s half-brother, by Pendragon, was knocked down to Rob Burnet on behalf of Auckland based clients Dr Alan and Colleen Jackson.

The Jacksons also share in the ownership of Faint Perfume with her breeder Dato Tan Chin Nam.

“He’s a strong, good walking colt, with an excellent reach, from a Classic producing family,” Burnet said.

“Considering he’s a half-brother to a multiple Group 1 winner in Faint Perfume, he represented good buying with such a strong family background.”

Burnet confirmed the colt would head to the stable of Bart Cummings.

Zabrasive runs favourite in Saturday's G1 AJC Derby, while Faint Perfume is a warm favourite to complete the VRC-AJC Oaks double the following week.
