The $2.6million Inglis Race series spread across two states today, with $50,000 bonuses won at both the Warrnambool and Wagga Cup carnivals.
DELEGANCE ($20,000 2010 Premier, 2f Delzao-Elegant Lass) was targeted at the Simons Waterfront Inglis Bonus 1200 at Warrnambool after a debut second at Bendigo in February.
Eight of the 13 runners were eligible for the $50,000 Inglis Bonus, but it was the daughter of Delzao who prevailed by a length.
In winning, Delegance became the second consecutive Inglis Race Series bonus winner in Victoria to be sold by Little Plains Stud.
At Wagga, eligible horses ran the trifecta in the Inglis Bonus 2YO Handicap, with the John O’Shea trained HENDRICUS ($62,500 2010 Easter, 2c Mossman-Only Vanda) proving triumphant.
The colt had to survive a protest from third placed Western Classic before being declared the winner. Sold by Twin Palms Stud, Hendricus had previously run second on debut to the highly promising Easter graduate Invest, who runs at Canterbury on Saturday.
O’Shea is starting to make a habit of winning Inglis features, having been successful with Elite Falls, Tigress Lily and Gujju in Race Series events earlier this season.
Hendricus is a half-brother to O’Shea’s stakes winning Reset mare Warpath.
The next race in the series is the $100,000 2YO Sportsman Inglis Challenge at Scone on May 13.
The following day 2009 graduates run for $250,000 in the 3YO Inglis Guineas at the historic Scone Saturday meeting on May 14.
