6th May 2010
Inglis Race Series entrants Enzed Girl & Sincero earned their connections an extra $50,000 Inglis Bonus, when taking out the 2yo events at Warrnambool & Wagga Wagga respectively today.
ENZED GIRL (P$120,000 2009 Easter, 2f Stravinsky x Nella Dane) continued Robert Smerdon’s great run at this years Warrnambool Carnival when romping away to a two and a half length win in the Simons Waterfront Inglis Bonus 1200 Handicap (1200m).
After missing the start the daughter of Stravinsky worked her way through the field before showing a good turn of foot to notch up her trainers sixth win in three days, collecting the $50,000 Inglis Bonus, in addition to the $12,000 first prizemoney in the process.
Three hours later and 700kms away $8,000 purchase Sincero proved too good for fellow Sydney Classic Yearling Sale graduates Liechtenstein and Nextanix in the Inglis Race Series 2yo Handicap (1200m) at Wagga Wagga.
SINCERO ($8,000 2009 Classic, 2g Umatilla x Yours As Always) justified his trainer Stephen Farley’s decision to travel down from Wyong to contest the event, earning over seven times his purchase price when adding the $50,000 Inglis Bonus on top of the $7,800 on offer to the winner.
The Inglis Race Series now moves to Scone on Friday May 14, with the running of the $100,000 Inglis Insurance Challenge and $770,000 Horsezone.com.au Inglis Guineas.
Nominations for both races at Scone close at 11am next Monday 10 May 2010.
Restricted to three-year-olds that were paid up for the Inglis Race Series, the $770,000 Inglis Guineas spells the end of the inaugural Inglis Race Series for graduates of Inglis’ yearling sales in 2008.
The inaugural series kicked off on Cox Plate Day 2008, with Starspangledbanner taking out the $250,000 Inglis Juvenile, and since then 12 individual horses have saluted in the series, under the care of 12 different trainers.
Robert Smerdon currently leads the field for the $50,000 Trainer Bonus on the 2008 series thanks to the two series wins of TALE OF LOVE at Mornington & Caulfield in February 2009. But there are a number of trainers aiming fellow Inglis Bonus winners at the series ending Guineas to split the prize, such as Kevin Moses (ALL LEGAL), Gerald Ryan (HUS DER LIEFTEN) and Gary Portelli (DELAGO BOLT).
Kicking off the May 14 card will be the $100,000 Inglis Challenge, which is restricted to two-year-olds that were offered at last years Inglis HTBA Scone Yearling Sale, a race that nominal Inglis Guineas favourite Star Of Octagonal ran third in twelve months ago after fetching just $23,000 at the sale the year before.
Entry into the next Inglis Race Series for 2010 yearling sale graduates closes Friday 30 July 2010. Entry forms can be downloaded HERE
