$634K Grossed At March Thoroughbred Opener

The Melbourne March Thoroughbred Sale opened at Oaklands today, with the Woodman mare Light Of Day topping the session after a winning bid of $45,000.

A winner of five races in Melbourne, Light Of Day was sold to Queensland’s Heinrich Bloodstock carrying a positive test to young Swettenham Stud stallion Hold That Tiger.

In all, 156 horses were sold today at a clearance rate of 85% for a gross of $634,600.

A feature of the day was the widespread buying bench.

Not only were Victorian buyers active, but there was also good competition from most other states of Australia and even the Philippines.

The Sale continues tomorrow, with a select number of weanlings, yearlings and unbroken stock followed by the significant Racehorse section, comprising both fillies and mares and colts and geldings.

Buyers not able to make it to Oaklands can still participate via Online Bidding, with the sale broadcast via the Sale Day Live coverage on the Inglis website.

Horses passed in through today’s sale can be purchased through the Make an Offer service. Horses passed in at last week’s Sydney Autumn Thoroughbred Sale and this month’s Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale are also available for sale via this service.
