Lightly raced stayer Tanby looks a horse on the up following an impressive two length win at Sandown on Wednesday providing a timely update for his half-brother by Red Ransom (USA), who will be offered by Mill Park Stud at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale next week.
A four year-old gelding by Galileo (IRE), the Lloyd Williams owned Tanby was sent out a heavily backed favourite and coasted home to win the 2100 metre event as he pleased.
Prepared by Robert Hickmott, Tanby has won four races from seven starts and placed on the other three occasions.
“We thought he’d put paid to them pretty easily today as he had a tough run last start at the Valley,” said winning rider Nick Hall.
Tanby was a $200,000 purchase for Nick Williams from the Mill Park draft at the 2008 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale and has a stayer’s pedigree being the first foal of Group Three winner Dane Belltar, who was second in a Group I VRC Oaks and third in the Group I SAJC South Australian Oaks and Australasian Oaks.
Tanby must have been showing a bit for some time as the Williams team have purchased both of Dane Belltar’s next foals to go to the sales, both offered by Mill Park, a three year-old gelding by Reset called Fawkner for $70,000 and a two year-old colt by Bel Esprit for $145,000.
The current yearling (pictured) from Dane Belltar is this colt by Red Ransom (USA) that will be offered as Lot 208 next Wednesday at the 2011 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
Galileo also featured at Randwick with the John O’Shea trained three year-old gelding Lightinthenite making it two wins in as many starts when scoring a stylish victory in the Ratings 75 event over 1300 metres.
Another smart winner for Jason Abrahams Champion Thoroughbreds, Lightinthenite was a $77,500 weanling purchase from the MM National Sale and is from the Grand Lodge (USA) mare Tiffin.
