A six-figure treble for June Online Auction

A 2YO son of Snitzel has led a trio of six-figure results in the Inglis Digital June Online Auction, with this month’s gross again surpassing $1.2 million with a clearance rate of 84% in the tried horse section.

Snitzel colt Morpheus, a Goulburn winner and last start runner-up at Randwick for Peter and Paul Snowden, topped this month’s online sale at $180,000, purchased by a “thrilled” Scott Darby of Darby Racing.

Out of three-time winning mare Trista Rossa (Testa Rossa), Morpheus is from the same family as Capestad, Zalinda and Fast ‘n’ Famous.

The rising 3YO will be transferred to the Mark Newnham stable and shares are available with Darby Racing, who are excited by the prospect of racing Morpheus in the Spring.

Darby Racing also secured Morpheus’ former stablemate Exclusive (Written Tycoon) for $35,000 and invested in the mare market, buying Montjeu mare Modave (NZ), in foal to Scissor Kick, from Arrowfield Stud for $10,000.

Singapore-based Elite Bloodstock bought the second top lot of the sale King, from the same connections, going to $130,000 for the son of Written Tycoon and Brilliant Bisc.

King is a two-time winner at Newcastle and ran second to Darby Racing’s Dio D’Oro at Randwick last start, with that colt franking the form with another victory in town last week.

The three other colts consigned by the same ownership group were Cosimo and Commissioner, sold for $50,000 and $37,500 respectively.

Cosimo was picked up by young Warwick Farm trainer Lauri Wray, who will look to geld the son of Written Tycoon and hopefully get a win on the board for his new connections.

Al Maher mare Token of Love headlined the broodmare category, selling to Queensland-based operation Canning Downs for $100,000.

Third in the Group 2 Matriarch Stakes last Spring, Token of Love also hails from a Stakes-performing family, with both her 2nd dam Charmante and 3rd dam French Charmer Stakes winners in Ireland and America respectively.

Stud manager Robert Petith said he will be sitting down with Canning Downs Principals Joy Mackay and John Barnes to discuss a Spring mating.

“It’s hard to buy a Stakes-performed mare like this, especially when you consider she beat home serious horses in Prompt Response and Flying Jess in the Matriach,'' Petith said.

“She is by an underrated sire in Al Maher and her pedigree is really interesting, it includes Group winners in America, Canada, France, Great Britain, Japan, India and even Switzerland in her first three generations.

“We thought she was really good value and she looks to be a big strong mare, so we’ll find a stallion to complement her and hopefully you’ll see the resulting yearling at the sales in the future.”

I Am Invincible maiden mare Fashion Model, offered by Champagne Syndications, was another highlight of the broodmare category; she sold to Randwick Bloodstock Agency for $50,000.

Another banner result of the June Online Auction was former Chris Waller galloper Sizzling Bullet, snapped up by South Australian trainer Mark Minervini for $30,000.

Minervini Racing have reaped big dividends with Inglis Digital December graduate Mica Lil, a $20,000 buy who ran a huge third in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes.

Perth-based racing group Gangemi Thoroughbreds were again active, securing multiple Group 2 winner and Group 1 placed Saracino for $32,500. They plan to target the Perth Summer Carnival with the gelding.

Red Ransom sire Onemorenomore was also sold, for $28,000 to Chinese interests.

The June Online Auction saw an increase in the median and clearance rate, compared to the record-breaking May Sale, with the other figures comparably based on the slightly smaller catalogue.
