Adelaide Haul Produces More Easter Updates

Headed by tough as teak stayer Zavite, Inglis Easter graduates dominated Adelaide Cup Day at Morphettville, as the updates for Australia’s number one yearling sale keep rolling in.

ZAVITE ($80,000 2004 Easter, 6g Zabeel-Miss Vita) has been in outstanding form this campaign, with earlier wins in the Australia Day Cup (LR) and Launceston Cup (G3) followed up with a dominant display under the steadier of 57.5kg in today’s G2 Adelaide Cup (3200m).

The Anthony Cummings trained stayer was the fourth Easter graduate to taste stakes success on the Morphettville card and he becomes just the second horse to carry more than 57kg to success in this race in the last 30 years.

Earlier, the fillies Champagne Harmony and Estee enhanced the Easter catalogue on two fronts, with both being former graduates and both having siblings for sale at Newmarket next month.

CHAMPAGNE HARMONY ($360,000 2007 Easter, 3f Choisir-Hansuyen) was heavily backed and proved too strong in the Group 2 Yalambee Classic (1200m), taking her record to three wins in just four outings.

Widden Stud will offer an Encosta De Lago filly from Champagne Harmony’s dam Hansuyen (Zabeel) as Lot 19 at Easter. Hansuyen is a full-sister to the dual G1 winners Champagne and St Reims.

ESTEE ($2.1million 2007, 3f Redoute’s Choice-Tycoon Lil) had placed at Group 2 level during the spring, but enhanced her record with victory in the Listed Adelaide Guineas (1600m).

The Lee Freedman trained filly becomes the sixth million dollar Easter yearling to win at stakes level in Australia this season.

Arrowfield Stud will offer a full-sister to Estee from her multiple Group 1 winning dam Tycoon Lil as Lot 296 at Easter.

The Mick Price trained MISS MAREN ($160,000 2006 Easter, 4m Stravinsky-Deebee Lady) was the first leg of the Easter black type quadrella at Morphettville, when taking the Listed Schweppervescence Stakes.

The Estee and Champagne Harmony updates follow the Group winning efforts by Wanted, Portillo and Judged at Randwick on Saturday. Each of those gallopers also have half relations to be sold next month.

The flood of Easter stakes winners also extended to Canberra yesterday, where BACCHANAL WOMAN ($80,000 2005 Easter, 5m Encosta De Lago-M’Lady Fonteyn) took out the Listed National Sprint.

Also at Canberra, DELAGO BOLT ($50,000 Premier, 2c Delago Brom-Bardego) added to the Premier Sale’s stakes record when dominating the Listed Black Opal and putting himself in the frame for next month’s Golden Slipper.

The 2009 Inglis Australian Easter Sale will be held at Newmarket from April 5-7.
