AJC unveils classic carnival

The Daily Telegraph - Wednesday, 25 March 2009

MORE than 75,000 people are expected trackside at Royal Randwick over four bumper days next month, with the Australian Jockey Club yesterday launching its Autumn Racing Carnival.

The four days of racing include 16 Group One races worth $9 million in prizemoney, headlined by the David Jones Australian Derby on April 11 and the Emirates Doncaster Mile on April 18.

AJC chairman Ross Smyth-Kirk said this year's carnival would have something for everyone, with racing at Royal Randwick taking place on three consecutive weekends between Easter Saturday and Anzac Day, plus a meeting on Easter Monday.

"This year's autumn carnival at Royal Randwick will be one to remember," he said.
