Another Classic Star on the Rise

Triple Crown Syndications enjoyed a pre-Christmas treat with an ultra impressive first up win for Fusaichi Pegasus (USA) filly Flying Empress, who seems destined for stakes company.

Purchased for $47,500 from the 2009 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale from the Middlebrook Valley Lodge draft, Flying Empress was an easy winner at her only previous start in July and has returned even better.

The Joe Pride trained filly led throughout and kicked strongly in the straight to win the 1200 metre event by two and a quarter lengths in a thoroughly dominant display.

“I’ll make a prediction here.. she’s very good,” enthused Joe Pride.

“To go out quite quickly as she did and then be able to kick away... it was a great win and she’s a very talented filly.

“We won’t tax her over the summer as we’re really looking at the autumn carnival and possibly on to Brisbane in the winter.”

Tim Clark was aboard the filly and was equally impressed.

“I’d say she’s well on her way to Saturday class if not Group class,” he said.

Flying Empress (pictured) is the first living foal of the Zabeel mare Bellevue Lady, a half-sister to Group Two placed Mango Daiquiri from the family of champion European sprinting mare Cherokee Rose.

She is by Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus (USA), whose last Australian bred foals are two year-olds this season.

Fupeg made it a double at the Canterbury meeting with Joe Pride and Tim Clark also combining to win with lightly raced four year-old Hanzo Steel, who made it two wins from five starts when saluting over 1100 metres.

Fupeg has two well credentialed sire sons to carry on his line in Australia with Haradasun and Zizou both set to make an impact at the yearling sales next year.

Middlebrook Valley has a strong draft of 13 yougnsters for the 2011 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
