The G1 mare Arabian Summer (Too Darn Hot) will be one of the standout offerings in this year’s Inglis Chairman’s Sale, for which entries must close tomorrow.
Arabian Summer is one of the most attractive racing and breeding prospects to be offered anywhere in the Southern Hemisphere this year.
High-class as a 2YO, a Group winner at three and a Moir Stakes placegetter as a 4YO, Arabian Summer has earned her connections over $1.5m already from just 15 career starts, which have netted five wins and five minor placings to date.
Arabian Summer was an electric juvenile, finishing 2nd behind subsequent G1 performers Coleman and Eneeza at her first two starts in the Listed Debutant Stakes and G3 Ottawa Stakes respectively.
She would then win her next two starts - and four of her next five, all at two – with her only unplaced juvenile effort coming when finishing 5th behind Storm Boy in the $3.5m Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
As a late 2YO Arabian Summer (pictured) won the $1m Magic Millions National 2YO Classic beating the likes of King Of Roseau, Spywire and Eneeza.
She trained on at three to win the G3 Peter le Grand Stakes at Caulfield and finish 3rd behind G1 winners Private Harry and Lade of Camelot in the $3m Sunlight Plate on the Gold Coast.
She continued to mature into her 4YO season, finishing a close-up 3rd behind Baraqiel in the G1 Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley, defeating the likes of G1 winners Skybird, Rothfire, Queman and La Dorada.
Her past seven starts have been at Group level where she has finished close behind some of Australia’s best sprinters like Giga Kick, Jimmystar, Tropicus, Schwarz, Benedetta, Reserve Bank etc.
Arabian Summer will be offered in the Segenhoe draft at Chairman’s on Thursday May 7 at Riverside.
Co-trainer Tony McEvoy described Arabian Summer as “a delight to train’’.
“And she’s far from done, there’s more in the tank with her as a race mare, I have no doubt about that,’’ McEvoy said.
“She’s a Too Darn Hot so she’s got that feistiness to her, that sass, but she’s truly a lovely mare with a lot of purpose that knows her job, wants to get on with it and is very talented.
“We paid $220,000 for her and she’s won us more than $1.5m. She was a sharp 2YO that was up and going early and as you’ll see in her form, she progressed to Group 1 level and has been very competitive.’’
Segenhoe’s Peter O’Brien added: “She’s very good looking and I know the family intimately, we have her mother (Maraam) on the farm.
“Arabian Summer is extremely consistent, lightning quick and will be an incredible addition to anybody’s broodmare band.’’
Inglis Bloodstock Sales Manager Harry Bailey was “ecstatic” to add Arabian Summer to the Chairman’s catalogue.
“She has a sexy profile,” Bailey said.
“She is a pretty mare and has incredible natural speed, but the pedigree also makes incredible appeal – a Too Darn Hot mare, who is out of a Street Cry mare, in turn out of a Lonhro mare – she is bred to be a good broodmare!
“We are very grateful to connections for choosing Chairman’s – a number of them have already had great experiences of the sale – but to be entrusted with a mare like this is a real privilege.”
Arabian Summer joins the likes of Stakes-winning 2YO Kiki Express – in foal to Extreme Choice – triple G1 winner Provence and millionaire mare Generosity as feature lots already committed to The Chairman’s Sale, a list which also includes the likes of Spicy Martini, Ahha Ahha, The Playwright, Snow In May, Cosmonova, In Flight, The Black Cloud, Good Banter, Appin Girl, Miss Icelandic, Just Feelin’ Lucky, Aeliana’s sister Sunshine In Capri, Classique Legend’s half sister I Am Famous, as well as the dams of the likes of G1-winning 2YO Captured By Love and G1 Golden Slipper runners Streisand, Fireball and Great House.
Several of the aforementioned are set to race this coming weekend.
In its short history, The Chairman’s Sale has become one of the most significant events on the global bloodstock calendar.
In 2025 fillies and mares off the track at The Chairman’s Sale averaged a staggering $879,222.
Highlight results at The Chairman’s Sale in recent years include the likes of Bella Nipotina ($4.2m) and Amelia’s Jewel ($3.8m) – both from last year’s auction – as well as Nimalee ($3.6m), Montefilia ($3.4m), She’s Extreme ($3.4m), Tutta La Vita ($3.2m), Estriella ($2.8m), Tiz Invincible ($2.8m), Shout The Bar ($2.7m), Celebrity Queen ($2.5m), Too Darn Lizzie ($2.4m), Icebath ($2.3m), Maastricht ($2.25m), Kimochi ($2.2m), In Her Time ($2.2m), I Am Me ($2m), Srikandi ($2m) etc.
This year’s format will mirror that of recent years – a late afternoon start at Riverside on Thursday May 7 with a ‘Where Elegance Meets Excellence’ theme.
Each of the past two G1 Golden Slipper-winning colts, Stay Inside and Shinzo, were sold in utero at the sale.
Other mares offered at Chairman’s include the dams of subsequent G1 winners Autumn Glow, Imperatriz, Home Affairs, Apocalyptic, She’s Extreme and international star In Italian amongst others.
