Armed For Action a Blue Diamond contender

A border-hopping raid to South Australia has delivered a Listed win to the Anthony Freedman-trained Armed For Action when the Victorian-based filly claimed the Queen Adelaide Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville on Saturday.

The two-year-old daughter of Exceed And Excel had showed above average ability on debut when scoring a 3-3/4 length-win in a Mornington maiden over 1005 metres on January 13.

The $90,000 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling buy last year was sent out a dominant favourite in the $80,000 race and her supporters never had a moment's concern after jockey Daniel Moor sent Armed For Action straight to the front.

Showing blistering speed, Armed For Action led easily before Moor went for home 300 metres out and his mount responded to kick away and win easily.

Armed For Action defeated the Gordon Richards-trained Marble Rye with John Hickmott’s gelding Flying Skipper finishing third.

The $50,000 that Armed For Action earned by winning the race took her career earnings to $56,825.

Armed For Action remains in the Blue Diamond Stakes mix and TAB Sportsbet reacted to the effortless win by slashing her quote from $21 to $12.
