Bookmakers are reporting strong interest for potential Doomben 10000 mudlarks in pre-barrier draw betting for the Group I sprint on Saturday.
With the prospect of a heavy track, punters have been throwing their weight behind the proven wet-trackers Absolute Glam and Youthful Jack with TAB Sportsbet, Luxbet and Sportingbet all reporting solid support.
“Absolute Glam is $21 to $12 with us today and they are still coming,” Sportingbet’s Michael Sullivan said.
“We have taken bets like $2000 at the $21 and $1000 each-way at $14.”
At Luxbet, Youthful Jack is $25 to $19 following continual support on Tuesday.
“He can obviously improve with a wet track but we are still happy to risk him because we’re not convinced he’s going as well as he was at the start of the year,” Luxbet’s Shaun Beirne said.
TAB Sportsbet’s Glenn Munsie said there had been plenty of pre-draw action with money spread across a number of runners.
“They are keen on a few of them,” Munsie said.
“With us the best backed runner is Absolute Glam and we’ve had support for Bank Robber and Black Piranha.
“Significantly they have started to come today for Youthful Jack and it is obviously because of the rain in Brisbane.”
Centrebet reported finding plenty of Ortensia fans on Monday but the shift has since been towards Sydney sprinter Danleigh.
“Ortensia is $10 into $6.50 but the support has dried up since the overnight rain,” Centrebet’s Neil Evans said.
“Today it has all been about Danleigh and a couple of good bets on Black Piranha.”
The other consensus among the betting agencies was the lack of support over the past 24 hours for the early favourite Apache Cat who is out to $4 in a wide market.
“They don’t want to back him which is strange,” Sportingbet’s Michael Sullivan said.
