Perth’s best galloper Luckygray will make its highly anticipated Melbourne debut in August.

The classy four-year-old made it 10 wins from 13 starts last Saturday in the $125,000 Hyperion Stakes (1600m) at Belmont Park under weight-for-age conditions.

Luckygray’s trainer Gino Poletti said Luckygray’s surprisingly narrow win in the Hyperion Stakes shouldn’t be underestimated and he confirmed the Group II Liston Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield as the galloper’s first start outside of Western Australia on August 18.

"I went a bit easy on him in preparation for the Hyperion," Poletti told The West Australian. "He's got a lengthy campaign coming up and I don't want to be too hard on him at this stage.

"We will give Luckygray a short let-up and his next race will be the Lawrence [Liston] Stakes over 1400 metres at Caulfield in mid-August.

"He will have four Melbourne races before returning home to be set for the Railway Stakes again."

Luckygray controversially won last year’s Railway Stakes after RWWA stewards upheld a protest against Kiwi galloper He's Remarkable.

Luckygray (Bradbury's Luck-Damah Lady) was originally purchased by Riverslea Farm for $31,000 at the 2008 Inglis Australian Weanling and Bloodstock Sale
