August Thoroughbred Sale

16th Aug 2006

The August Thoroughbred Sale at Oaklands Junction, Melbourne, on Friday 25th August looks set to be a sale that will cater for all buyers with a wide selection of horses on offer.

An impressive main catalogue includes o ver 265 lots comprising of 101 broodmares, 140 racehorses, yearlings & unbroken stock and two stakes performed stallions Azevedo & Coats Choice.

Azevedo, stakes placed on 3 occasions, including a 3rd in the Gr 1 VRC Lightning Hcp. behind international trailblazer Choisir, looks set to be one of the stand out lots of the sale. Winning over $180,000 in prize money for his connections, the time has come where this talented son of Helissio (FR) will now embark on the next stage of his career as a stallion.

The beautifully bred Redoute's Choice stallion Coats Choice has created a great deal of interest. Contrary to some reports, the Stallion Return Fees are fully lodged for the stallion's first season at stud last season. The lightly raced Coats Choice, stakes placed at his debut run, is currently based in Victoria where he is being prepared for the upcoming sale. Being a 3/4 brother to emerging young stallion Catbird, Coat's Choice must be one of the most interesting stallion propositions available for sale this year. A pedigree of Easter quality, the yearling half-brother by Lonhro has been entered for the 2007 Easter Yearling Sale.

Broodmares covered by Bel Esprit, Bianconi (USA), Canny Lad, Kempinsky, Niello, Royal Academy (USA), Tale of The Cat (USA), Distant Music (USA), etc make up a very strong section. Among those on offer is the stakes winning Regal Touch (NZ) covered by Royal Academy (USA), as well as the stakes placed Stylish Victory covered by Sunline’s sire, Desert Sun (GB). Stylish Victory has had 3 to race for 3 winners, highlighted by the stakes winning pair of Victory Trump and Savage Attack.

The racehorse section features stakes performers Ranch and One Of A Kind plus the consistent Headland who will be offered on account of Lindsay Park Stud as agent, as well as Forest Knight, a winner of over $200,000 in prize money.

The supplementary catalogue is highlighted by:

Azzudo, a half sister to champion Hong Kong galloper Natural Blitz ($1,952,147 including Sha Tin Hong Kong Sprint - Gr 1) in foal to Desert King. The resulting progeny being a 3/4 brother or sister in blood to Natural Blitz.

Being offered as a broodmare proposition is My Lady Penelope, a 2001 mare who is a full sister to Group 3 winner Classy Dane. Having not been to stud as yet, this well related mare would be a prize purchase for anyone looking at sending a mare to stud this season.

Redoute's Choice 3yo filly Burj Al Arab is also being offered as a potential broodmare. This filly is from a French stakes placed Scenic mare who is a half sister to the Irish stakes winner Clean Cut.

Catalogues can be obtained by contacting either the Sydney or the Melbourne offices. The Supplementary catalogue will be available on the day of the sale.
