A solid clearance rate of 85% was the result of strong competition across the board in all categories at the close of the 355 lot session at the William Inglis & Son August Thoroughbred Sale.
With one of the last opportunities to purchase mares in Victoria before the commencement of the breeding season, it was no surprise to see the Broodmare section well received by the numerous attendees at Oaklands.
Leading the Broodmare section was Lot 92, the Little Plains Stud offered Spiralling (NZ). In foal to Stravinsky (USA), the half-sister to multiple Group Two winner Toil was purchased by D & E Dance of Victoria for $60,000.
The extensive racehorse section of the sale provided opportunities aplenty for those looking to purchase. The standout in the racehorse section saw Graceful Devil, Lot 220, realise $72,500 as part of the reduction sale draft of Sutton Grange Racing. A sister to the stakes performed Divine Secret and half to Poseidon’s Secret, Graceful Devil was purchased by Colm Santry Bloodstock.
Wood Nook Farm as agent prepared Lot 154, the Red Ransom (USA) filly Red Light who was knocked down to Gordon Henderson for $68,000. A half-sister to the Listed winner Franjelica, the filly comes from the family of Group One winners Tawqeet (USA), Horatio Nelson (IRE), Imagine (IRE) and Generous (IRE).
“Overall the strength of the sale has been strong, with race fillies and geldings both in high demand. Buyers from various states of Australia were joined by a significant buying bench from the Philippines,” stated William Inglis & Son Director Peter Heagney.
The next sale on the William Inglis & Son Bloodstock Calendar is next Friday’s Inaugural 2007 Inglis Scone Broodmare Sale to be held at White Park. A line up over 140 race fillies and mares will be highlighted by multiple stakes performed mares off the track including the Group One placed Zenarta and Group Three winner Dream Machine.
