Aushorse Aims to Attract New Players

Aushorse - Press Release - Friday, 3 April 2009

CONTINUING its charter of promoting racehorse ownership, Aushorse has organised a range of activities bringing potential new buyers to the upcoming Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

The initiatives include a unique behind the scenes look at the yearling sales process, examination of prized yearlings and talks by leading trainers and syndicators such as Gai Waterhouse and Denise Martin and bloodstock experts.

On each day of the Inglis Easter Sale (Sunday April 5-Tuesday April 7) at Newmarket, Aushorse will provide guests with a unique insight into the thoroughbred yearling sales and offer assistance to those who are interested in taking the next step towards owning a racehorse.

Aushorse Marketing promotes the Australian thoroughbred to the world, but this year has taken on a new dimension in encouraging more domestic ownership through education and strong focus on promoting the fun and excitement of racing a thoroughbred.

Guests at the Aushorse Marquee will hear an exclusive interview with Hall of Fame trainer Gai Waterhouse and Star Thoroughbreds’ Denise Martin will speak about her syndication business, which has enjoyed outstanding success over the past 12 months through the likes of Theseo, Bank Robber and the $130,000 yearling that became a $30million stallion prospect for his ownership team (pictured), Sebring

Aushorse hosted a similar marquee function last month at the Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale. The event attracted a wide range of potential new owners to the sale, proving a success with the many guests that attended.

Guests, which included VIPS, Corporates, Media and Sporting Celebrities, were afforded the chance to meet some of Melbourne’s leading trainers, in addition a “how to inspect a yearling” session with one of Australia’s leading bloodstock agents, John Foote – the man who found Makybe Diva and her mum for Tony Santic.

“This proved highly popular and the yearling of choice (from the Makybe draft) ended up being the sale topping Redoute’s Choice-Celtic Reign colt,” Aushorse Marketing Manager Jo McKinnon said.

“We received a wonderful response from the guests in Melbourne and we are looking forward to a similar response in Sydney, where we have a number of exciting topics for the invited guests.”

The 2009 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale begins this Sunday, April 5 from 1pm in Sydney.

The 600-yearling catalogue includes progeny from 181 stakes winning mares, including 50 Group 1 winners.

Furthermore, there are siblings to 157 stakes winners, of which 53 won Group 1 races.

Easter graduates have won 70 stakes races in Australia this season, including 11 at Group 1 level.
