Aussie Bred Stars in South Africa

Aussie bred Rocket Man was not the only Australian thoroughbred strutting his stuff on the world stage over the weekend with major successes in South Africa for star three year-old filly Igugu.

If ever there was a chance for the Triple Tiara to be won, then South African commentators believe this is the year after Galileo (IRE) filly Igugu smashed her rivals to win the Group 1 S A Fillies Classic over 1800 metres by more than 10 lengths.

The middle leg of the Triple Crown series for fillies was won in devastating fashion by the Mike de Kock trained Igugu, who took her overall record to five wins and two seconds from seven starts.

Igugu was bred by Kia Ora Stud and fetched $65,000 when offered at the 2009 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale where she was bought by Livestock Traders.

The 20th Group 1 winner worldwide for her champion sire Galileo, (pictured) Igugu is raced by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum and Mr and Mrs A J Macdonald

Igugu is the second foal of Zarinia (IRE), an Intikhab mare from the family of champion mare and Arc winner Zarkava. Zarnia has a yearling colt by Holy Roman Emperor (IRE) and was covered last spring by Shamardal (USA).
