The catalogue for the 2012 edition of the Southern Hemisphere’s leading breeding stock sale, the Inglis Australian Easter Broodmare Sale, is now available online at www.inglis.com.au
The sale, featuring 668 lots, will be held from April 17 to 19 at Inglis’ Newmarket complex during the Sydney Carnival.
48% of the fillies and mares catalogued are siblings to stakes winners, just like Black Caviar’s dam Helsinge was when sold at the 2005 Easter Broodmare Sale. The unraced daughter of Desert Sun was bought by Peter Ford for $115,000 on behalf of Rick Jamieson’s Gilgai Farm, the subsequent breeder of undefeated World Champion Sprinter Black Caviar and $1.025 million colt All Too Hard.
This year’s Easter Broodmare Sale takes on an exciting new look, with the auction split into three separate sessions; Super Select Session, Select Session and General Session.
The Super Select Session, covering lots 1 to 223, with be held on Tuesday April 17 with selling to begin at 10:30am. This session contains the best fillies and mares entered for the sale, encompassing 63 individual stakes winners including Champion New Zealand Two-year-old Anabandana and dual Group One winner Response, along with Group One winners Demerger and Episode both in-foal to leading sire Fastnet Rock.
“The response from vendors who want to offer their best proven producers and breeding prospects in the new star studded Super Select Session has been overwhelming,” Inglis Bloodstock Director Jonathan D’Arcy said.
“Unfortunately we had the draw the line with 223 offerings on Day One, but there are plenty of top prospects catalogued in Day Two’s Select Session and abundant bargains to be found on Day Three,” D’Arcy added.
233 lots (224 to 456), highlighted by the GSA Bloodstock unreserved reduction, have been set down for offering in the Select Session on Day Two, Wednesday April 18, followed by 212 lots (457 to 668) in the General Session on Thursday April 19. Selling will begin at 10:30am all three days of the sale.
“There is fantastic racing at Randwick on the Saturday’s either side of the Easter Broodmare Sale and we look forward to welcoming all local, interstate and overseas buyers to Newmarket in search of the mare to start their own dynasty, just as Rick Jamieson has done with Helsinge and Cecile Smith has done with Triassic,” D’Arcy added.
Triassic, the dam of So You Think, is another fantastic example of the dynasty being created with an Easter Broodmare Sale purchase. The daughter of Tights was purchased from Easter Broodmare for just $16,000 before being sent to High Chaparral, with globetrotting champion So You Think the resultant offspring. Mike Moran and Cecile Smith will offer So You Think’s brother at next month’s Easter Yearling Sale as Lot 436.
The dams of Champion Two-year-old Sepoy and Melbourne Cup winners Shocking and Viewed were also purchased from the Australian Easter Broodmare Sale prior to their progeny’s Group One victories.
76% of this year’s catalogue are being sold in-foal to proven and exciting young sires from both Australia and New Zealand, such as Fastnet Rock (12 lots in-foal), Exceed And Excel (11), Snitzel (11), Choisir (11), Stratum (8), Encosta de Lago (6), High Chaparral (5), Redoute’s Choice (4), Flying Spur (3), Zabeel (3), Lonhro (2) and More Than Ready (1).
At the recent Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale the progeny of Not A Single Doubt averaged 6.4 times his service fee. 17 mares will be offered in-foal to the son of Redoute’s Choice at this year’s Easter Broodmare Sale.
Other exciting young stallions with 10 or more mares in-foal catalogued for the sale include Ad Valorem, All American, Denman, Duke Of Marmalade, Excellent Art, Haradasun, Hinchinbrook, I Am Invincible, Nicconi, Sebring and Wanted.
