Australian Pattern Committee Recommendations

Australian Racing Board - Alan Brown - Tuesday, 30 June 2009

The Australian Pattern Committee met today for the first time to consider changes to the Pattern, since Equine Influenza. Accordingly, the Committee reviewed the races within the Black Type listings and have made a number of recommendations to the Australian Racing Board.

The Sydney Turf Club’s Golden Rose was recommended for elevation to Group 1 status.

“The STC’s Golden Rose, if approved by the ARB, will join the Ascot Vale Stakes in Victoria as only the second Group 1 race for three year olds in Australia below 1600m. In its short history it has consistently produced outstanding fields and would thoroughly deserve elevation to Group 1.” – Alan Brown, Chairman Australian Pattern Committee

Other races recommended for upgrade include:

  • VRC Rory’s Jester Stakes to Group 2
  • QTC Dane Ripper Quality to Group 2
  • VRC Milady Stakes to Group 2
  • BTC Vo Rogue Plate to Group 3
  • ITC Keith F. Nolan Classic to Group 3
  • BTC Lady of the Turf Stakes to Group 3
  • MRC Naturalism Stakes to Group 3

The Pattern Committee also elevated ten additional races into the Listed category. These races include:

  • MRC Hussonet Cup
  • VRC Henry Bucks Plate
  • VRC Crown Mares Trophy
  • WRC Wangoom Handicap
  • HRC Rowley Mile
  • HRC Darley Crown
  • QTC Queensland Cup
  • BTC Mode Handicap
  • BTC Dalrello Plate
  • WATC Ascot 100 Guineas

The above recommendations will be put forward to the Australian Racing Board for consideration in due course.
