$400,000 REDOUTE’S CHOICE FOAL EQUALS RECORD

Booming trade from last week’s blockbuster yearling sale rolled on into the Australian Select Weanling Sale at the same venue today, generating a new record average and equalling the $400,000 top-price paid for a foal at Newmarket.

Again it was Redoute’s Choice making the headlines when his sole representative topped the sale selling for $400,000 to William Inglis as agent for an Australian owner. The lot in question was Attunga Stud’s bay filly out of the stakes-producer Diorama, by Zedative.

The second top-priced lot of the day was a classy Encosta De Lago filly offered by Coolmore Stud, as agent, and bought by Riverslea Farm for $300,000. The filly is the first foal out of the stakes-placed Langfuhr mare Shalang, a half-sister to the multiple Group 1 winner Shame.

The first weanling by 2004 Horse Of The Year Lonhro also proved a considerable attraction, eventuallly selling to Inglis as agent for $150,000. The top-priced colt was offered by Lonhro’s owner-breeders Woodlands Stud.

Overall 150 weanlings brought gross receipts of $3,728,200 for a new record average of $24,855, while the clearance rate was an excellent 88 per cent.
