Group 1 Manawatu Sire’s Produce Stakes winner Choice Bro is a prime example of the great Australian bred stock on offer at the Inglis Australian Weanling & Breeding Stock Sale. The son Choisir was purchased by Paul Willetts for $40,000 at the 2010 weanling sale and pinhooked through as a yearling in New Zealand, where he has raced to great success this season under the care of John Sargent.

Michael Wallace Bloodstock finished last year’s sale as the leading individual buyer, purchasing six weanlings from the select session for $484,500 including colts by Fastnet Rock for $130,000, Magic Albert for $71,000 and Not A Single Doubt for $56,000. As yearlings those colts made NZ$340,000, NZ$220,000 and NZ$120,000 respectively.

Other New Zealand pinhookers who experienced great success from last year’s sale include Lyndhurst Farm, who turned Encosta de Lago-Divine Secret colt from a $65,000 weanling to NZ$180,000 yearling.

Australian breeders are world renowned for producing tough, precocious gallopers that excel across a wide variety of conditions and yearling buyers were snapping up good types at Inglis’ Select Yearling Sale in 2012 that had been pin-hooked successfully from last year’s Australian Weanling & Bloodstock Sale.

Kulani Park successfully took Rock Of Gibraltar-Possessed colt from a $100,000 buy at last year’s Sydney weanling sale to a $190,000 yearling at the Easter Yearling Sale in April.

At Melbourne Premier this year Three Bridges Thoroughbreds sold their Sebring-Amouage colt for $100,000, after buying him as a weanling for $30,000 on the advice of Paul Willets. Supreme Thoroughbreds turned Haradsun-Our Scene Steeler colt from a $30,000 weanling to $90,000 yearling also at Premier, while in Grange Thoroughbred’s Real Saga-Delori filly that’s was purchased as weanling for $16,000 made $48,000 as a Session Two yearling in Melbourne.

Lincoln Farm were a bit disappointed not to get $20,000 for their Ready’s Image-Topsinga colt at last year’s weanling sale, but they had belief in the great type, which was justified when selling for $100,000 at Sydney Classic Yearling Sale to BC3 in January this year.

Weanling pinhooks also featured well at the 2012 Inglis Melbourne Autumn Yearling Sale, where Riverina Downs prepared their War Pass-Daisy Fey colt to make $42,000, after purchasing him for $10,000 at the 2011 Inglis Australian Weanling and Breeding Stock Sale.

“As shown, whatever level you are looking at investing at there is plenty of upside to the weanlings purchased by the shrewd buyer at the Australian Weanling and Breeding Stock Sale in Sydney,” Inglis Bloodstock Director Jonathan D’Arcy points out.

“There are already 42 weanlings from stakes performers and 39 siblings to stakes performers set to be offered in this year’s weanling section and if last year’s offerings are anything to go by there will be plenty of black type updates before this year’s group are sold as yearlings,” D’Arcy said.

Middlebrook Valley Lodge offered Sebring-Yes She Can Cancan colt at last year’s weanling sale. Twelve months on the colt’s siblings Ofcourseican and Gimmethegreenlight are now both Group 1 winners.

The 2012 catalogue of 338 weanlings includes the progeny of top stallions such as Fastnet Rock, High Chaparral, Lonhro, Danehill Dancer, Commands, Encosta de Lago, Flying Spur, Testa Rossa, Snitzel, Al Maher and Starcraft.

First Season Sires include Group 1 winners All American, Big Brown, Denman, Duporth, Manhattan Rain, Nicconi, Onemorenomore, Turffontein and Wanted, plus top level performers Dreamscape, I Am Invincible, Murtajill, Raheeb, Time Thief and Von Costa de Hero.

The General Session Weanlings on Day 2 of the sale will be followed immediately by the 109 Select Session Broodmares, including Group 1 winners Dane Ripper and Love to Dance, Group 2 winner Glammis, Group 3 winners Alpine Club and Shylight, along with Listed winners Aragonce, Gathering Storm and Mermaid’s Flannel.

“There are plenty of well related and performed broodmares for sale in both the Select and General Sessions, with many in foal to Australia’s proven and exciting young stallions,” Jonathan D’Arcy adds.

Covering stallions of broodmares catalogued include Encosta de Lago, Testa Rossa, Bel Esprit, High Chaparral, Not A Single Doubt, Statue Of Liberty, Choisir, Dane Shadow, Magic Albert, Casino Prince, Sebring, Denman, Duporth, Nicconi, Onemorenomore, Wanted, Super Saver and Star Witness.

The third and final day of the sale, Friday June 29, will comprise of the 66 General Session Broodmares, 1 stallion, 117 yearlings, 7 unbroken stock and 30 racehorses. Day Three offerings can be viewed HERE

Entries include half-sister to Group 1 winner Mirjulisa Lass and siblings to stakes winners Magic Shaft, Cabazon and Western Beau, plus fillies from stakes winning dams Lady Cat, Princess Pulsa and Song of Hope.

All yearlings purchased at the Inglis Australian Weanling & Bloodstock Sale are eligible for nomination into the $5million Inglis Race Series, including the $100,000 Inglis 2YO Challenge at Scone, which was won by $19,000 yearling buy Tinszelda this year.
