Autumn Concludes Up 18%

Significant gains across all major indicators highlighted the 2010 Melbourne Autumn Yearling Sale, which concluded at Oaklands today.

A Dash For Cash colt from Basinghall Farm topped day two selling at $42,000.

In all, 253 horses have been sold in Session I for a gross of $3,104,600. This represents an 18% increase on figures from 2009.

Similarly, the average climbed to $12,271, a gain of 23% on the figures from 12 months ago. The median was also up 20%, while Darley’s $65,000 sale topping Strategic colt was also up on last year’s top price.

Late this afternoon, the clearance rate reached 80%.

Today's Session II contributed an additional $300,000 to the sale total.

“It’s been quite a satisfactory sale with good competition from a wide range of buyers,” Inglis Director Peter Heagney said.

“It was pleasing to see so many foreign buyers taking an active interest, in particular a number of different buyers from Korea, who took away 10 horses from the sale.

“The popularity of Super Vobis was also very evident, with those horses qualified attracting strong interest.”

Horses passed in during the past two days are still available for sale via the Make an Offer service.

The next opportunity to secure an Inglis yearling comes up next month with the Scone Select Yearling Sale.

Scone graduates are enjoying a hot streak at the moment, with Small Minds, Welkom Gold, Hot Danish and Star Of Octagonal all winning stakes races in the past month.

Buyers are reminded that this sale has been expanded to two days this year, with more than 400 lots to be offered on May 13 and 16.

The sale falls around the running of the Horsezone.com.au Inglis Guineas on Friday May 14, a race open to all Inglis graduates paid up for the race series with monster prizemoney of $770,000 on offer.
