Autumn Yearling Sale - Day 2

As expected, Encosta de Lago was again the star of the Melbourne Autumn Yearling Sale, when the final session of the sale was concluded at Oaklands today.

The two top priced colts were both presented by Little Plains Stud (As Agent). Topping the sale was the colt from Star of The Stud, a sister to Gai Waterhouse’s former top racehorse Juggler. This colt was purchased by astute judge Robert Roulston for $90,000. This was the second highest price ever achieved at an Autumn Yearling Sale after last year’s record breaking Encosta de Lago colt at $215,000. Second top price was achieved for the colt from the Group 3 winning mare Pride of Ingenue, making this colt a half brother to five winners including the stakes performers Atapi and Silence Prevails. He was purchased by Jim Marconi, who also purchased the top priced filly of the sale yesterday.

Overall 273 lots were sold after an average of $10,513 and a clearance of 78.39%. Melbourne Manager Peter Heagney commented, “the sale result was exactly as expected. Yearlings with good confirmation and well presented met serious competition with many making in excess of vendors expectations. Unfortunately a number of yearlings had not been as well presented as is required and these were a little difficult to sell. However the clearance of nearly 80% indicates that the majority of vendors were pleased with the prices and we were certainly satisfied with the result.”

The June Weanling and Thoroughbred sale runs for 4 days from the 26 th June through to the 30 th June, entries close April 22 nd.
