Autumn Yearlings In Wide Demand

The 2007 William Inglis & Son Autumn Yearling Sale drew to a close with records posted across all levels including gross and average. Particularly pleasing was the rise in clearance and the median, which gained 15% from last year’s sale, a sign of the health and buoyancy of the market.

Numerous local buyers were joined by interstate interest from most states of Australia, while participants from Hong Kong and New Zealand joined in on the spirited bidding duels for the quality lots.

Well-prepared types were in strong demand, as was evident with two magnificent colt’s prepared by Bob Watson of Rosewood Park Agistment for Mr And Mrs Howard Martin, including the sale topping Platinum Scissors colt that fetched $57,500.

Vendors who elected to give their yearlings the extra time to develop were rewarded for their patience, cementing the William Inglis & Son Autumn Yearling Sale as a viable alternative to the cluster of sales occurring earlier in the year.

“Demand for these horses can be diluted across earlier sales, especially in the sub - median market, whereas Autumn is where the buyers come to acquire a genuine racing prospect that is affordable. Vendors who offered well grown, well prepared yearlings were suitably rewarded”, stated Inglis Director Peter Heagney.

“The Autumn Yearling Sale has proven to be an excellent launching pad for the race careers of many topline gallopers. Graduates such as VRC Australian Cup hero Pompeii Ruler as well as recent stakes performers Isanami, Dracs Back and Smart And Mighty, argue well for the quality that can be purchased from the ring.”
