Average Up 42% At VOBIS Gold

In a smashing Sunday at Oaklands Junction, spirited bidding by more than 70 individual buyers saw the sale average climb to $19,370, a sensational increase of 42% from 2015 for the first day of the 2016 Inglis VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale.

108 Lots were sold at a buoyant clearance rate of 86 per cent, seeing the gross climb 28 per cent on the day one figure from 2015.

“Never before have there been such rewards for Victorian-bred horses, and today’s superb sales results reflect the confidence in the Victorian breeding and racing industry,” said TBV Executive Officer Patrick Clancy.

“The recent success of Victorian-bred horses such as If Not Now When and Malaguerra highlight the benefits of buying a VOBIS horse out of this sale,” Clancy said.

A son of the Champion sire Redoute’s Choice was top price today, selling for $80,000 to the bid of Frankie Stockdale. Lot 8 is the first foal of Hussonet mare French Alliance, and was offered by Morning Rise Stud.

“The plan is to take this colt back through the Sydney Ready2Race Sale in October. I have been selling there since the sale started and it just continues to get better and better,” said Stockdale.

“Last year I saw buyers there which you only ever see at yearling sales. This year if you have a look at the yearlings I have bought, they are good, well-bred horses for decent money. I want to continue to support the sale as it grows,” Stockdale said.

Another colt intended to be pinhooked through the Inglis Ready2Race Sale is Lot 23 from Basinghall Farm. The son of Not A Single Doubt was secured by Peter Strong for $68,000 on behalf of his client Tosh Murphy.

“Today has been a great sale. I’ve been to every major yearling sale this year and he’s as good a colt as I’ve seen this year,” said Strong.

In addition to Lot 23, Basinghall Farm sold another two of the top ten Lots including Lot 133, a colt by Snitzel out of Tickle My for $75,000. These results see the Victorian farm at the top of the vendors table by aggregate and average (three or more sold).

“We are fortunate enough to have some really nice horses this year, and we’ve had a fantastic sale so far,” said Basinghall Farm’s Tas Rielley.

“We’re very pleased with the results and are excited to offer another two really nice colts tomorrow,” Rielley said.

The second and final day of the VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale starts at the earlier time of 11:00am tomorrow, Monday 18 April 2016.

Day Two starts with the remaining Select Session offerings (Lot 141 to 206), followed by the General Session (Lots 207 to 286) then concluding with the Supplementary Session (Lots 287 to 303).
