Bagmen Think Darley Classic A Dunn Deal

Breeding and Racing - Friday, 6th November 2015

Despite yesterday's torrential downpour in Melbourne on Oaks Day, and the likelihood that the track will still play soft for tomorrow's Emirates Stakes Day with expected showers today, bookmakers are still pricing Chautauqua as the good thing he looks on paper for the Gr1 Darley Classic (1200m).

Rated a $1.55 chance after a flawless winning Spring treble including a Flemington 1200m win, sandwiched by two dazzling Moonee Valley scores, Chautauqua should only have to stay out of trouble to overpower his rivals in the final 200m.

For those hoping there's a chink in his considerable armour, Chautauqua has only raced once of a heavy track, finishing 2nd early in his career at Gosford, while three runs on soft going have resulted in a win and a placing.

Regular jockey Dwayne Dunn takes the ride again after Tommy Berry's dashing ride at Moonee Valley last start.

Terravista, Srikandi and Lumosty are all $8 or better, while Buffering, who has a great record in this race, is at $15.
