Bjorn Baker’s clever targeting of Inglis Race Series events continued to pay dividends today when his athletic filly Rosaleisha (Testa Rossa x Galeisha) took out the Albury Guineas over 1400m, securing along with it a $50,000 Inglis Bonus, more than doubling the total prizemoney for the race.
The tough filly earned every part of her winnings, covering more ground than others in the field. Rosaleisha came from last having to swoop wide around the outside to storm home and score by more than a length for jockey Kayla Nisbet.
“She travelled really well, and I was able to track up coming to the corner and she showed a really nice turn of foot and got to the line very strongly,” Nisbet said.
Bred by Peter Vogl, the filly was expertly selected from the Yallambee Stud draft at the 2014 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale by her trainer Bjorn Baker, who went to $90,000 to secure her.
Baker is no stranger to Inglis Race Series riches, with his most recent series victory having been with Lady Sniper which took out the $250,000 Inglis Sprint at Royal Randwick in December, and previously more than $300,000 in two juvenile Race Series events with Twilight Royale, among others.
“I’ve had great success with the Race Series and I’ve got a lot to thank Inglis for. Make sure you always tick that Race Series box!” said Baker.
“It’s a huge win for the owners, many of whom were in Twilight Royale also. Her class today shows me she’s on the way to black type, maybe during The Championships, and Scone is definitely an option,” Baker said, alluding to a run in the Inglis Guineas during the Scone Cup Carnival.
A win at Scone would see Rosaleisha complete the feat of last year’s Albury Guineas/Inglis Guineas victor Loved Up. Ahead of Rosaleisha and Loved Up, three more consecutive Inglis graduates have won the Albury Guineas: Road Trippin, Ryker, and Fat Al, the latter of which went on to claim Group 1 victory.
The next feature in the lucrative Inglis Race Series will be the $100,000 2YO Inglis VOBIS Gold Plate over 1000m at Cranbourne on 1 April, for yearlings sold at the 2015 Inglis VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale.
The next $50,000 Inglis bonus will be at the 3YO BM70 Handicap over 1200m at Warrnambool on 4 May.
All yearlings sold or passed in at an Inglis Yearling Sale are eligible for nomination to the Inglis Race Series. Nominations for 2016 Inglis yearling graduates to be included in the next Race Series close on July 31. Nominations can be downloaded HERE
