He cost $8,000 and he may well be the best horse in the country.
Group I BRC Stradbroke Handicap winner Sincero confirmed his spring potential and Cox Plate aspirations with a powerful in the Group III ATC Tramway Handicap atWarwick Farm on Saturday.
The Stephen Farley-trained son of veteran sire Umatilla settled closer thanmany expected and was allowed to stride entering the straight where he moved upto challenge the leader, Neeson before charging to the lead.
At the 200 metres Sincero (pictured www.stevehart.com.au) was looking under threat as Group I winner SecretAdmirer and talented gelding Thankgodyou'rehere loomed ominously, but he dugdeep for regular partner Chris O'Brien to win by a nose.
"The plan is to get him to 2000m so we took the blinkers off and tried toget him to settle,” Farley said.
"He only had three weeks off so fitness wasn't a problem.”
O'Brien said the four-year-old was away well and just took him into the racebefore grinding out a "tough” win.
"He bounced on the bunny and just went on and did the job, it was a toughwin,” O'Brien said.
"He's a winner and I'm so happy to be a part of his career.
"He settles well so I'd say he will get further than what we've seen sofar from him.”
Farley said he would "see what happens with Randwick” before committing to any further plans with the galloper.
An $8,000 purchase from the Nerreman Stud draft at the 2009 Inglis ClassicYearling Sale, Sincero (pictured as a yearling) was not the cheapest horse sold at that sale in 2009,but he certainly wasn't far off it, with buyers seeing nothing to excite in thecolt from handy broodmare Yours as Always, who had produced five previouswinners, none good enough to win in town.
To date, Sincero has won 10 of 14 starts and $1.1 million in prizemoney for hislarge group of owners.
Breeding experts will look at Sincero and likely put his success down to linebreeding to two influential full sisters (4 x 4) in world renowned Best in Showand her lesser known sister Reckless Driver, who features in his direct tailfemale pedigree.
In-breeding to Reckless Driver has never produced a stakes-winner, however in-breedingto Best in Show, who has left numerous sire son descendants, has provenspectacularly successful producing 29 stakes-winners worldwide includingAustralian Group I winners Heavenly Glow, Redoute's Dancer and Dariana.
Interestingly, the tail female family of Sincero from Reckless Driver forwardhas produced one Group I winner in Tytola, which is by Last Tycoon (IRE) fromTolanda.
This is the exact same pattern as Sincero, a 4 x 4 cross of the full sistersBest in Show and Reckless Driver.
Unfortunately, there will be no further opportunity for Sincero's breedersRoger and Lyn Gorham to experiment further with the cross as his dam Yours asAlways died earlier in the year.
