Apprentice Regan Bayliss has made a winning Flemington debut aboard Reckless Assassin in the Rising Stars Final on Saturday.

With only minimal exposure to metropolitan racing during his first full season as an apprentice, Bayliss’ win in the Rising Stars Final (1800m) aboard Reckless Assassin was his first ride and win at Flemington.

His success came aboard the John Sadler-trained Reckless Assassin who settled third and despite towing the field up to a pair of tearaway leaders, proved dominant over the final furlong for a clear cut success.

“You can just imagine how he feels at the moment,” Sadler said.

“It is such an exciting moment for him and he has worked hard to get to here.

“While I wasn’t confident as she usually takes a two runs before she hits her straps, he was looking for every positive he could find.

“The way the race turned out, it fell into her lap.”

The win means the Rising Stars Apprentice Series has finished in a tie with Bayliss drawing level to Jye McNeil who each have 54 points after a 23 race series.

It was the third winner Bayliss had ridden throughout the course of the series.

“It is a dream come true,” Bayliss said.

“I went through every single one of her replays and really studied her form.

“I thought she was the best horse in the race. Second up last prep she was only beaten a length to Hirad over 1400m so I knew she was going to be highly competitive today and she showed that.”

His first full season of riding, Bayliss has ridden more than 30 winners.

The young jockey is on track to feature more prominently throughout metropolitan programs during the new season.

“I have five rides at Caulfield on Wednesday and I am restricted to Wednesday meetings at the moment.

“I just want to outride my country claim.”

Regan’s brother Jake also took part in the 2013/14 Rising Stars Final and a third aboard Madam Nash saw him move to sixth overall for the series.

“We’re each others biggest supporters and I am glad he could be in the same race with me,” Regan Bayliss said.
