Sure And Fast, trained at Kembla Grange by Bede Murray, qualified for the $300,000 Provincial Championship Final (1400m) when he won the first heat over 1350 metres at Wyong on March 5 beating the Kris Lees-trained Selectify.
While Murray is thrilled to have a leading contender for the rich Randwick final, he is not going to pass up the chance to win another feature race beforehand with Sure And Fast at the Albury Gold Cup carnival.
Murray has set Sure And Fast for the $50,000 Albury Guineas (1400m), the feature three-year-old race of the Albury carnival on March 27.
The Albury Guineas (1400m) is an Inglis Bonus race and offers an extra $50,000 to the winner if the horse is an Inglis sales graduate.
Sure And Fast is eligible for the bonus as he was sold for $60,000 at the 2013 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale in Sydney.
The Albury Guineas also addresses Murray’s need to give Sure And Fast another start before the Provincial Championship Final.
“I can’t let Sure And Fast go five weeks without another start before the big race at Randwick,” Murray said yesterday.
“I always had the Albury Guineas in mind for Sure And Fast and now it will provide him with the perfect lead-up to the Final.”
Sure And Fast is highly regarded by the Murray stable with his Wyong victory taking his record to three wins from nine starts.
Murray has been a big supporter of the Albury Cup carnival for many years and is planning to have multiple runners over the two days on March 26 and 27.
He is set to be represented in the $170,000 Albury Gold Cup (2000m) by his honest performer World Wide following his excellent third in Sunday’s $200,000 Canberra Cup (2000m) won by Faust.
Faust, trained at Goulburn by 29-year-old Kurt Goldman, also has the Albury Cup on his agenda following his Canberra win.
