Benefits Evident For Sargent and His Witness

For most of Saturday, the nation’s racing public will be Cox Plate-centric, but for a group of Sydney-based owners the pressure will be on for the first race, as John Sargent’s maiden colt Credible Witness lines up for the $250,000 RL Inglis Banner Race at Moonee Valley.

Sargent purchased the colt for $40,000 from this year’s Premier Yearling Sale, for none other reason than he was “a spitting image of Successor,” said Sargent, referring to his now retired stakes-winning two-year-old.

The son of Star Witness was syndicated to large group, many of which are involved Sargent’s Sydney-based operation directly, including foreman Gareth McRae, his wife (and Sargent’s secretary) Robyn and Sargent’s Vet Rachel Slaz.

“For a maiden he’s already gotten himself an impressive entourage,” said Sargent.

“Most of the owners, many of which are first-timers, will be there on Saturday to watch him in The Banner, it’s a bonus the Cox Plate is on the same day!” Sargent said.

Credible Witness ran an impressive second place in first official two-year-old trial of the year behind Snowden’s promising juvenile Inglis Premier Eliza Park graduate Defcon.

All two-year-olds nominated to the Inglis Race Series are eligible for the $250,000 RL Inglis Banner. For more information on the lucrative $5 million Inglis Race Series visit inglis.com.au/races
