Bidding frenzy sends prices soaring as records fall at the Inglis June Thoroughbred Sale

With the excitement of a Spring Carnival race day the Inglis June sale came to a fantastic close this afternoon. The Oaklands auditorium was jam-packed with a very keen crowd eager to bid and very strong competition sent prices soaring.

A total of 491 lots were sold for $7,107,150, up 26.5% on last year's corresponding sale, for an average of $14,474.85. The clearance rate was a very pleasing 88%.

Highlights were enjoyed throughout the day with competition particularly strong on fillies and younger broodmares. The Lloyd Williams Racing unreserved draft was presented beautifully and created unprecedented competition around the ring. Illustration, a bay gelding by Zabeel was purchased by Eric Donald from Victoria for $200,000 representing the top lot for the lucrative Williams Racing draft.

The stakes winning mare Pretty Penny by Encosta De Lago fell to the bid of Glentreedowns for $265,000 claiming the position as second highest priced lot in the sale.

Inglis has welcomed a strong national buying bench to the sale over the last five days with guests from WA, QLD, SA and NSW as well as international buyers from the Philippines, Korea and New Zealand.

Director, Peter Heagney was thrilled with the results; “It was fantastic to see such a strong competing crowd at this sale. The competition for race fillies was a strong as I have ever seen and naturally it was pleasing to achieve such a good result for the Lloyd Williams Racing team.”
