Big Pay Day for Resistant

Breednet - Tara Madgwick - Saturday, 1 December 2012

The juvenile event at Caulfield on Saturday was won by talented Choisir colt Resistant, an $85,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the draft of Burnewang North.

Prepared by Mick Price, the speedy chestnut improved on his debut fourth in the Listed MRC Merson Cooper Stakes, travelling strongly for Craig Newitt and fighting on tenaciously to the line to win the 1100 metre dash by a long head.

"I think that's about $82,000 to the owners today with the VOBIS Gold bonus, so it's a great result,” said Mick Price, adding the colt had reaped the benefit of race experience and being able to train on.

Craig Newitt was well pleased with the effort and believes there is a bright future for Resistant.

"He's a nice horse and we've always thought whatever he does this preparation, he'll be better again next time,” he said.

Resistant is raced by a large group of owners led by Luke Wilkinson with his breeder Cathy Hains of Burnewang North retaining a share as well.

Resistant is the first winner for stakes-placed Encosta de Lago mare Swinging Babe who comes from the family of stakes-winner Carnelian.
