Big Plans For Inglis Trophy Victor

Big plans are afoot for promising three-year-old The Quarterback following his impressive victory in the valuable Inglis Trophy at Sale in Victoria on Sunday.

The Quarterback ($120,000 2012 Premier, 3g Street Boss-Soorena) settled at the back of the field in the $100,000 event, before jockey Matthew Allen pressed the go button and the galloper swept past his rivals to a strong win. Ilgattion finished a length off in second and Pompeious two lengths further back in third.

Trained by Robbie Griffiths, The Quarterback is now unbeaten in two starts this season. The stable are looking to black-type events in the coming weeks for the exciting galloper.

“This horse has a lot of potential and it showed today, that was a massive win from where he was (in the run),” said stable representative Jade Matthews

“He could possibly go to Emirates Stakes Day over 1400 metres (Hilton Hotels Stakes) it just depends on how he goes in his track work but the grand plan is the Sandown Guineas,” Jade indicated.

A half-brother to Group 2 winner Phillipi, The Quarterback was bred by Gilgai Farm and sold from the draft of Makybe to Robbie Griffiths for $120,000 at the 2012 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.

Sunday’s win took The Quarterback’s earnings to $111,000 from three career starts. The winning owners and winning jockey Matthew Allen received an exclusive piece of Antler Luggage after the Inglis Trophy win, while Robbie Griffiths also receives a set of Swarovski Optik EL 42 Swarovision binoculars.

The Inglis Trophy was one of two Inglis Race Series events conducted over the weekend. The other being the $250,000 Inglis Banner at Moonee Valley on Cox Plate Day, which was won by Silversands.
