Big win by Dynamic Honour leaves Chris Waller with a dilema

5th Dec 2011

The Daily Telegraph - Ray Thomas - Saturday, 3 December 2011

DYNAMIC Honour, by the same sire as Melbourne Cup winner Americain, underlined his staying potential when he completed a winning hat-trick at Rosehill yesterday.

But trainer Chris Waller conceded Dynamic Honour's winning streak has left him with a dilemma - does he keep the three-year-old in training over summer or spell the colt now with the autumn carnival in mind?

"It is bad timing," Waller admitted. "We are on the wrong leg for a race like the Rosehill Guineas in the autumn.

"But then again, it is so important to win Saturday prizemoney and that is what we are trying to do."

Dynamic Honour ($2.60) needed every metre of the Rosehill straight to run down early leader Gaze In Awe ($6.50) in the Blackwoods Pacific Hoists Handicap (1400m) and win by a neck with Sindarin ($3) a length away third.

Champion jockey Hugh Bowman was at his vigorous best on Dynamic Honour but was forced to stand down from the rest of the day due to back soreness from a race fall at Hawkesbury on Thursday.

The lightly-raced Dynamic Honour has now won each of his three starts this preparation, progressing from a maiden at Gosford.

"This was a perfect race for him today; the right class and opposition," Waller said. "We would not have wanted it to be any stronger.

"What I like about him is that he tries so hard."

Dynamic Honour is by champion American stallion Dynaformer and was bred to Australian time.

He was sold for $100,000 as a yearling at the Inglis Easter Sales last year - before Americain's Melbourne Cup triumph.

"Dynaformer is an outstanding stallion based in the United States where he stands for a high fee," Waller said.

"On his breeding, and taking a line through Americain, you would think Dynamic Honour will get further. I'd say he should handle 2000m."

Dynamic Honour was having only his fifth start and Waller said the colt's inexperience showed under pressure.

"He didn't look all that comfortable on the turn and got a bit lost in the straight," Waller said.

"I think that shows the horse is still getting there.

"He reminds me of some of the good horses we have had over the years that have won races by small margins but kept on improving.

"Dynamic Honour still has a long way to go but he is finding ways to win, which is encouraging."

Waller led in the first two winners on the program after juvenile Fundido made an impressive debut.

The trainer's brace of wins took his tally to 40 for the season, opening up a 10-win lead over rival Peter Snowden and has Waller well placed to defend the Sydney premiership title he won for the first time in 2010-11.
