Brisbane-based trainer Liam Birchley ventured south last season to win a $250,000 Inglis Race Series feature and he intends to do the same with today's ultra impressive Eagle Farm winner Slice And Dice.
The Birchley trained Fear No Other ($50,000 2008 Classic) took out last season's $250,000 Inglis Classic (pictured) and he intends to aim today's winner at next month's inaugural $250,000 Inglis Nursery.
SLICE AND DICE ($70,000 2009 Classic, 2c Jet Spur-Roaring Forties), a purchase for Aquanita Racing from the draft of Murrulla Stud, became the first winner for his Glenlogan Park based sire Jet Spur when winning the QTIS 600 2YO Colts And Geldings Handicap (1000m) by a widening six lengths.
Just as he did on debut at Doomben last month, Slice And Dice drew poorly today and jockey Michael Cahill allowed him to settle well back in the field before unleashing him in the straight.
Birchley said the Inglis Nursery (1000m), to be run on Villiers Day at Randwick on December 19, was an ideal target for the colt.
"It's worth $250,000, which is nothing to be sneezed at and it looks a really good option for him," Birchley said.
The next race in the $2.6million Inglis Race Series for 2009 graduates is at Canberra on November 29, with a $50,000 Bonus up for grabs.
