It’s not always the case that full siblings have similar ability, in fact it’s quite often the opposite, but for Black Caviar’s brother the early signs are positive.
The John Hawkes trained three year-old colt Moshe made a mess of the opposition at Bendigo on Thursday when he blazed away over the concluding stages to take the 1000 metre maiden by six lengths.
“Before the race it was like being here with Lonhro, there were so many people wanting to come up and see him,” Wayne Hawkes revealed.
“He’s always shown ability, but it’s not really fair on the horse for us to expect so much, he doesn’t know he’s Black Caviar’s (pictured) brother.
“He’s a kid and this is all a learning curve.”
Hawkes explained that Moshe had suffered shin soreness and immaturity as a two year-old which had delayed his raceday debut and there will be no hurry to press on too hard with him at present.
Purchased for just $75,000 from the Swettenham draft at the 2009 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, Moshe was considerably less expensive than his famous older sister who was bought from the same sale for $210,000 the year before.
Note: A half brother to Black Caviar & Moshe by Casino Prince will be offered at the 2011 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale
