Black Caviar celebrates her 21st in Adelaide

Royal Ascot awaits Australia’s mighty mare Black Caviar, which celebrated her 21st straight win in style today when victorious in the $500,000 Group 1 SAJC The Goodwood (1,200m) at Morphettville in Adelaide.

30,000 fans travelled from all over South Australia to farewell the country’s unbeaten superstar and the world’s best sprinter (pictured) did not fail to deliver, recording an effortless one and a half length win over We’re Gonna Rock, with Stirling Grove back in third.

Black Caviar’s champion trainer Peter Moody was obviously relieved to get today’s 11th Group 1 victory behind the stunning galloper as the team readies for an overseas assault starting with the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes (1,200m) at Royal Ascot on June 23.

“He [Luke Nolen] was kind on her and we’re happy with where we’re at,” Moody said after the win.

“No one has ever given us anymore for winning by a big space, she ran slightly quicker time than she did the other day, she’s in good shape, as long as she pulls up well we’ll be happy.

“I’m just happy and grateful about now that when she turns round and trots back towards me that everything looks good.

“The hairs on the back of my neck stand up like everyone else, but it’s just good to get another one behind us.

“Everything has gone as expected, she’s done a good job, she’s where we want her and so as long as she pleases us in the next three weeks she’s on the plane,” said Moody.

Black Caviar is due to depart Melbourne in the next few weeks in readiness for the Diamond Jubilee Stakes, which acts as the sixth leg of the 2012 Global Sprint Challenge. Black Caviar notched her 19th career win when taking out the first leg of this year’s challenge, the Group 1 VRC Lightning Stakes (1,000m) at Flemington February 18.

There is a US$1million bonus on offer for the 2012 Global Sprint Challenge. To claim the bonus a horse must win a minimum of three Group 1 races across three different countries during the 2012 Global Sprint Challenge. The Group 1 Sprinters Stakes in Japan on September 30 or Group 1 Hong Kong Sprint in Hong Kong on December 9 are options for Australia’s wonder mare following her upcoming trip to England.

Black Caviar ($210,000 2008 Premier, 5m Bel Esprit-Helsinge), since her purchase for $210,000 from the draft Swettenham Stud, on behalf of breeder Rick Jamieson’s Gilgai Farm, at the 2008 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, has amassed $5.77million in prizemoney for her connections; G J & Mrs K J Wilkie, Werrett Bloodstock P/L Synd (Mgr: N Werrett), C & Mrs J Madden, P Hawkes & D M & Mrs J Taylor.

In a career best effort the Mark Kavanagh trained Inglis Easter Yearling Sale graduate We’re Gonna Rock officially got within 1.3lenghts of the great mare on the finish line today, the closest any rival has come to Black Caviar in 19 months. Rounding out the Inglis trifecta in The Goodwood was Richard Jolly’s $52,500 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale graduate Stirling Grove.
