Black Caviar's owners enjoy success with Rowdy Belle

Herald Sun - Michael Manley - Tuesday, 25 June 2013

IT didn't take long after the retirement of Black Caviar for her owners to continue their remarkable winning streak when first starter Rowdy Belle won on debut today.

Although Black Caviar's colours were retired with her, Rowdy Belle, a two-year-old filly, carried the salmon-and-black colours with the only difference being instead of black spots, there is a black diamond and also black diamonds on the cap.

Rowdy Belle is also trained by Black Caviar's trainer Peter Moody and is by the same stallion Bel Esprit.

Moody said the syndicate approached him at last year's Melbourne Inglis Sales and asked him to purchase another horse.

Moody paid $180,000 for Rowdy Belle for the same syndicate headed by Gary Wilkie, Neil Werrett, Colin Madden and David Taylor.

The filly's win in Tuesday's IRT International Breakfast (1118m) took the owners' winning sequence as a group to 26, as Black Caviar retired undefeated with 25 wins.

"They have a little bit of luck," an understated Moody said after the win.

Rowdy Belle is by the same sire of Black Caviar in Bel Esprit but the trainer was quick to say she's no Black Caviar.

"I do like her. I thought the distance would be too short and she would need the experience but they went that hard she was able to finish quickly," Moody said.

Rowdy Belle was last into the straight and gave the leaders an eight-length start but, with Linda Meech aboard, she reeled them in for an easy win.
