Black Type For Five Inglis Race Series Events

Five individual races in the $5million Inglis Race Series have been given the official stamp of approval by the Australian Pattern Committee and Australian Racing Board for upgrade to Restricted Listed status.

At its meeting on Friday 10 August, the Australian Pattern Committee recommended to the Australian Racing Board that the Inglis Banner, Inglis Nursery, Inglis Classic, Inglis Premier and Inglis Guineas be elevated to black type.

The recommendations were considered by the Australian Racing Board and all five events have today been given the official tick of approval. The races are:-

The Inglis Race Series events had been rated by the ANZ Classifications Committee above the race rating benchmark for Listed status, a great acknowledgement for the young series.

“Inglis is very pleased that the strength of our growing race series has been endorsed by both the Australian Pattern Committee and Australian Racing Board,” said Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster.

“For a series that only kicked off in 2008 with subsequent Australian and European Champion Sprinter Starspangledbanner winning the first event, the Inglis Race Series has gone from strength to strength as recognised in today’s announcement,” Webster said.

Along with Starspangledbanner the $250,000 Inglis Banner’s honour roll includes Group 2 winner Elite Falls.

The inaugural $250,000 Inglis Nursery was taken out by subsequent Group 2 winner Chance Bye in 2009, before being won by fellow speedy fillies Pane In The Glass and Diamond Earth the following years.

Chance Bye and Pane In The Glass went on to complete the Inglis Nursery/ Inglis Classic double in their two-year-old seasons, while this year’s running was won by smart debutant Cavalry Rose.

First place prizemoney in the Inglis Premier, run over 1200m at the spacious Mornington track, is taken into account in ballot conditions for the Group 1 MRC Blue Diamond Stakes run just two weeks later. 2011 Inglis Premier winner Masthead subsequently finished third in the Blue Diamond and fourth in the Golden Slipper, while 2012 winner Snitzerland won the Group 3 VRC TBV Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes, finished second in the Golden Slipper and won the Group 3 ATC San Domenico Stakes in races since.

The Inglis Guineas has quickly established itself as a springboard for three-year-olds to the Brisbane Winter Carnival, with 2011 Guineas winner Sincero progressing to victory in the Group 1 BRC Stradbroke Handicap 28 days later before returning in the spring to score in the Group 1 ATC George Main Stakes.

All yearlings offered for sale during Inglis’ Select Yearling Sale Series are eligible for nomination into the $5million Inglis Race Series. The 2013 sales series kicks off with the two-day Summer Book of the Sydney Classic Yearling Sale on January 20 & 21.
